The 6th Annual Ice Bowl Was a Record Setting Event! - Feb 25th, 2014
The 6th Annual Lebanon Ice Bowl held this past Saturday February 22, was a record breaking event. This event has been played in some harsh conditions such as: rain, snow, ice, freezing temps and a mixture of all. The record setting temperature of nearly 65 degrees was welcomed by everyone. Although some strong winds throughout the day caused some less than desirable throws (especially on hole 16 “The elevated hill hole”), the weather couldn't have been much better.
Sixty-seven players chose to be a part of this years Ice Bowl that was played on the Jared Hilton Memorial Course inside Atchley Park. The 67 kept the trend of the attendance growing each year. Although this was the smallest increase (last year there were 66), the one extra person was awesome to have. Another record was the number of divisions we had. There were 8 divisions, which was quite amazing for an Ice Bowl. Having Masters, Grand Masters, Women and Juniors is always a bonus!
The Ice Bowl,as many of you know, was founded by Rick Rothstein of Disc Golf World to help raise money and food for the needy all over the world. A time to “give back” is the ultimate purpose. Fund raising efforts of plenty are made available at these events in hopes of raising as much money as possible. The Lebanon Area Foundation has been blessed by the Lebanon Ice Bowl for 6 years. The most exciting record that was set Saturday was the money raised. Like the attendance always growing, so are the donation increases each year. Last year we raised $1,265 and this year we raised $1,643! GREAT JOB TO ALL OF YOU!! I know there are some that frown on mulligans, but over $800 was raised because of these bonus throws. I hope this makes it easier to see why they are made available. The other two ways money was raised was giving the option of bringing cans or charging 5 extra bucks and having a drawing. The Drawing was supported by Missouri Eagle, Monster, and the City of Lebanon who funded a Monkey Trap to be given away. On behalf of the LAF to all who donated, a special “Thank You”!
Winners included: Brandy Monnahan (Women's), River Flagg (Junior), Dakota Dummermuth (breaking a tie w/ Gary Braman) (Recreational), Jeremy (Baggar) Anderson (Intermediate), Lee Griffitts (Masters), Stan Balke (breaking a tie with John Parsons) (Grand Masters), Tyler Webster (Advanced) and Doug Wiegand blasting a 92 with an Ace and a 100 foot head wind putt to hold off Mike Porter by 2 in the Open Division. Congratulations to all who cashed. This was an awesome time! Thanks again for all the support. The day was one to remember!
